I've been refining the song for 30 years. The first two verses were in it from the beginning. The third verse was added later, when I saw how much my chihuahua (I'm a dog-dad), who was three at the time, was so excited about Christmas, not only tearing open HIS gifts, but knowing when the day was near. Realizing that even a (very smart) dog can get excited about Christmas, it angered me remembering that my dad wouldn't wake early for gifts and would, instead, send me back to my room when I would try to go downstairs to see the gifts at midnight.

Christmas is an exciting time for children... and that excitement builds for weeks and months before Christmas day arrives.
